I’ve ridden the Hero bike over many trips to India- (from Canada) built like a tank, heavy, durable, infinitely repairable if necessary, in every city town and village. The quality is OK, and they’re cheap. Does best on the plains as its a trial to go uphill. You can pick up a hero Royal- the classic- for less than R3000- about $60 U.S., and used much cheaper.
The tubes are not all that good, but will last you a few months cycling before you sell it- or do like me- find a charitable organization and just donate it to them. Make sure you keep your receipt to pass that on, and include a letter stating you are donating it.
If you’re going to bike in India- forget all the fancy ones and don’t bring your $5000 bike from home- just get the Royal.
